Quanto às palavras galegas afouteza e arrualho, diga-se que, embora elas sejam, as duas, substantivos de significaçom próxima, três aspetos fundamentais as diferenciam: a) o semántico: afouteza significa ‘coragem, valentia’, com tons, em geral, positivos, que correspondem a umha caraterizaçom meliorativa, enquanto que arrualho denota ‘altivez, arrogáncia, arrebato’, sendo palavra de tons, em geral, negativos e utilizada para caraterizaçons pejorativas; b) o geográfico-normativo: enquanto arrualho é voz privativamente galega, sem existência ou reconhecimento nos padrons lexicais de Portugal e do Brasil, já afouteza é comum à Galiza e aos padrons lexicais lusitano e brasileiro (se bem que, nestes, em concorrência com a variante afoiteza); c) o morfológico: enquanto o substantivo afouteza deriva do adjetivo afouto –a (luso-bras. afoito –a + afouto -a), já arrualho nom deriva de qualquer adjetivo, antes origina, por derivaçom, o adjetivo arrualhado –a.
